To cancelling cable. While I do watch a lot (and I mean a LOT) of television, it’s 98% broadcast TV, and the 2 shows on premium channels (Burn Notice and Eureka) are available on iTunes. Since I have an AppleTV hooked to the TV, and plenty of storage space, I often contemplate just cancelling my [...]

Even in this age of iTunes and MP3 stores, I still prefer to buy my music on CDs. There’s just something about opening a box, unwrapping a CD, reading the liner notes, and having that shiny silver disc to hold. Not that I don’t load all my CDs into iTunes for easy access from my [...]

I use a lot of Smart Playlists in iTunes, based on song ratings, genres, playcounts, and date last played (or not,) or skipped. It’s taken a few years, and some discipline, but it works fairly well:
1 – No CD comes into my collection (yes, I still buy real CDs) without being ripped into iTunes, listened [...]

Last weekend was a typical cold and rainy Seattle weekend. So I spent some time getting the rest of my Blu-ray movies moved onto my media server for easy watching. Then I spent some more time hunting down movie posters to use in the list of movies that shows up on my media PC, because [...]

My new Kindle e-book reader from Amazon arrived today. A day early, even! Once I received the shipping notice, I spent some time ordering any free books that looked interesting, and prioritizing my list of favorite and yet-to-be-read books that I wanted on the Kindle. Amazingly, I managed to stay under the budget I set. [...]

With Dustin Hoffman as Mr. Magorium and Natalie Portman as Mahoney, as well as Jason Bateman as “Mutant” aka [...]

Back when DVDs first starting becoming popular, everybody was all “They’re better than VHS tapes cause they’ll last forever!”
Turns out, that’s not true. I’ve gotten far enough in my project to store all my DVDs on my media server that I’m getting to some of the older movies and TV shows on DVD now. [...]

188 unread books. Not nearly as many as I though there would be, especially because this includes some technical manuals.
675 books entered into my tracking software this weekend. Hooray for the external 10-key pad I found that works with my Mac. And hooray for the years I spent running that old cash register at Jerrols, [...]

Nim’s Island was on last weekend’s watch list. Maybe not the best children’s movie I’ve seen recently – that honor goes to The Spiderwick Chronicles – but it was a cute movie, and it looked FANTASTIC in Blu-ray. A cute movie about a little girl who lives on an island in the south pacific with [...]

I love books. I’ve been reading since grade school, pretty much anything I could get my hands on that sounded entertaining. Books are a great escape from the daily stresses of life, and a great way to learn about other people and cultures and experiences without ever leaving the comfort of your home.
There was [...]
