So I spent part of the weekend visiting my parents in central Washington. As usual when visiting my parents, there are computer questions to be answered. My mom finally joined the digital world with a MacBook Pro about a year ago, and while she still states that she “hates the computer” it’s usually sitting on [...]

After 5 hours in line, I finally have my new 16GB iPhone. 5 hours is a ridiculous time to wait. 2-3 is marginal, but after waiting 2-3 hours, I was absolutely determined to stay in line until I either got my phone, or heard they had sold out of the one I wanted.
Fortunately, by the [...]

Well, I had hoped to be writing about my fantastic new 3G ipone by now. Unfortunately, I don’t have one yet. I’m about halfway through the line so far, and I’ve been here for over two hours. Rumor is that the activation servers are crashing again, just like last year.
All I can say is that [...]

Sounds a little strange, doesn’t it? However, in addition to my savings plan, and typical spending/new toy cycle, I have the maximum amount of income tax removed from my paycheck all year to guarantee a return when I file my taxes. This year, my tax return paid for. . .

Since Smitty (see the Computers page) is used for DVD conversion, it really needed a larger, faster hard drive added. Fortunately, I had a spare 500GB drive in an eSATA enclosure, and an eSATA controller card pulled from another computer. So last night, I shut Smitty down to install the card and connect an eSATA [...]

My Vista HTPC has been running great for months. Unless I need to transfer files to or from it over the network connection. Because the network file transfers maxed at about 150kB/s, even though I was using a 1Gbit card connected to a 1Gbit network. And that 150kB/s only happened if I felt like waiting [...]

I’ve never been much of a fan of Best Buy. Over the years, I’ve always been able to find what I was looking for somewhere else, for a better price. Not to mention the low quality of service that is usually expected at superstores such as this. However, in the last month, there have been [...]

I’m just sitting at my PC trying to unwind from a very stressful day at work. Don’t feel like firing up the MacBook just to listen to iTunes, and I don’t have the iTunes library on the WHS set back up yet, which is what my PC connects to, so no iTunes here either. However, [...]

Thanks to Best Buy’s dirt cheap price on an external 1TB drive (although the price of dirt is often relative) I was able to add enough space back into the server last night to get all the data back on the shares. So I started the last 500GB of data copying this morning, and when [...]

Well, I wish my server rebuild had only taken 9-12 hours. So far, it has taken me 29 hours to backup up the data, re-install Windows Home Server, and start moving the data back into the shares. Of course, until the new drive shows up on Thursday, there isn’t enough space to move all the [...]
