A cool, geeky breeze
Now that summer is here, it’s time to put in a window fan to counteract the extra heat and humidity from my computers and fish tanks. Since the fan I used last year was old, dirty, and noisy, I went looking for a new one. I found the Bionaire BW2300 fan on Amazon. Customer reviews said the fan was quiet, and I decided the remote would be useful because the fan sits in a hard-to-reach window. I installed the fan tonight, which went fairly well considering the location of the window. Then it was time to install the batteries in the remote, and discovered that the latch to open the battery compartment was either broken, or smarter than me.
Fortunately, I had a bright idea, and launched the Logitech software for programming my universal remote. A quick search of “Climate Control Devices” and there were the commands for my new fan. 5 minutes later, I had the fan added, an Activity set up, and was changing fan speeds and direction with my Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote.
That’s right, the same remote I use to watch movies and listen to music can now be used to cool the room down.
