Oh Look. Snow
The weather here in Seattle has been a little weird in the last week. And by weird I mean “there’s 8 inches of snow on the ground.” This, in a city that usually sees about 2-3 inches a year, and usually for a grand total of 2 days in February.
Well, right now, it’s been snowing since last Sunday, and looks like it will continue snowing through tomorrow, or maybe Tuesday. And then start again on Wednesday. It depends on whose weather forecast you watch.
The snow has made life very interesting. Mostly because the city shuts down entirely when there’s even a trace of snow. Personally, I haven’t left the house since Wednesday night. It’s not that I don’t like the snow, or can’t drive in the snow. I grew up in Ellensburg, and learned to drive during a winter when we had an average of a foot of snow on the ground.
But Seattle snow is an entirely different beast. Since we’re close the water, and generally a slightly warmer climate, we get this nasty wet slippery snow, not the heavy, solid snow of places like central Washington and the midwest. Combine the wet, slippery snow with the steep hills, and it’s a recipe for accidents. Combine THAT recipe with the idiots that Seattle drivers can turn into, and it’s just not safe to be on the road.
Fortunately, I stocked up on groceries, have plenty of movies, and my new TV finally arrived between snowstorms. So I’m set until it’s safe to drive again.
At least the snow is pretty:
