Rain

I love the rain. It’s one of the reasons I live in Seattle. There’s not much better than sitting in a cozy chair wrapped up in a blanket and watching the rain run down the window on a cold winter day.

However, due to the layout of our house and my furnishings, I haven’t been able to do this for a few years. Then as I was driving to work in the rain yesterday (yes, I had to work on Saturday) I had a brilliant idea. (Hey! Quiet in the peanut gallery!)

I could get rid of the cabinet in the back corner of the room that was full of stuff I never used, and move the recliner from the upstairs living room down to that corner, and it would have a really nice view of the backyard-and therefore, the rain-through the sliding glass door. This was a brilliant idea, until I got home from work and measured the width of the recliner, versus the width of the space between the fishtank and the wall, where the cabinet was sitting. The space was over 12 inches too narrow. :(

But then I had another brilliant idea. So I spent most of today emptying and removing the cabinet, and switching my 28 gallon and 36 gallon fishtanks. So now, the 36 gallon that used to be next to the desk is against the back wall of the room, and the narrower 28 gallon that used to be at the back of the room is next to the desk. This works out well for the fish, too. The loaches in the 36 are kind of shy, and they much prefer being in a place without much traffic passing by. Plus, the fish in the 28 are really tiny, and were hard to see from across the room, as there wasn’t any seating next to that tank.

Once the tanks were moved, my dad and I hauled the recliner downstairs, which required getting it out of the living room-and around the elliptical trainer we never use-then down the stairs, out the front door, around the house, and in through the sliding glass door to my basement. This was a little tricky, because the recliner is actually wider than the stairs and opening of the front door. But it worked.

And now, I have a nice, comfy, cushy recliner where I can sit and read, or study, or just watch the rain. Of course, now that the recliner is ready, the forecast for the next 5 days does not include rain.
