Nim’s Island – a mini movie review

Nim’s Island was on last weekend’s watch list. Maybe not the best children’s movie I’ve seen recently – that honor goes to The Spiderwick Chronicles – but it was a cute movie, and it looked FANTASTIC in Blu-ray. A cute movie about a little girl who lives on an island in the south pacific with her scientist father. When he is lost at sea on what is supposed to be a 2-day journey, and a “pirate” ship discovers the island, Nim has to find a way to defend their home, with help from her favorite adventurer Alex Rover.

I always enjoy watching Abigail Breslin, and seeing her as Nim was no different. Jodi Foster does a nice job of playing the neurotic author who contacts Nim and gets pulled in to help save the island. Plus, lots of Gerard Butler, playing both Alex Rover and Nim’s father, which I think is always a good thing.

Next up: Vantage Point. It arrived from Netflix last week, but will probably be another week before I get to it. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but I’m looking forward to seeing quite a few of my favorite non-blockbuster actors in it.
