it’s my website, I’ll ramble if I want to

Amazon.com

I love Amazon. I could spend my entire month’s salary there, every month, if I didn’t have bills to pay and savings to aquire. It’s an addiction. But seriously, they sell EVERYTHING. The usual books, CDs, and DVDs, plus computer parts, camera equipment, electronics, bulk groceries (woohoo for 6-packs of beef jerky!) and household items like shoe racks and jewelry boxes, not to mention your random drugstore stuff like shampoo. And with my Amazon Prime membership, free 2-day shipping on almost everything, as long as it’s sold by Amazon themselves and not one of their affiliated merchants. Although the merchants are pretty good about shipping quickly, too. And then there’s the “Marketplace” which is full of cheap, used copies of the aforementioned books, CDs, and DVDs. The Amazon Marketplace makes it really easy to sell off the DVDs I don’t want anymore, too.

And now, I’ve discovered the Amazon Media Library. In one way, it’s kind of scary because it’s a record of every piece of media (books, CDs, DVDs, software, and downloads) that I have ever purchased from Amazon. On the other hand, it’s a really handy online record of the items I own that I’ve purchased from Amazon. Plus, you can add items to the collection that you bought from someone other than Amazon. And you can share items from your library with other, and create links to your library.

So, while it’s still a little bit Big Brother, I’m in the process of getting my book, CD, and DVD collections updated in my Amazon Media library. Then I’ll add links to this site for each collection. It will make the linking much easier than the export and upload process required to get the info out of my collection software. I’m still not entirely sure that this will work the way I want it to, but I’ll poke around and see. For now, I’ve posted a link to my book collection on the right, which is nowhere near complete, but is small enough to be a good sample of what I’m trying to do.
