Ouch
Between work, errands, and things to do around the house, I’ve been a bit busy lately. But I got everything finished up last night, and had hoped to write a nice long ramble about my collection habits. Instead, I ended up with a migraine. I hate migraines. I used to get them very frequently; at one point I had a migraine every 3-4 days with a migraine hangover headache in between. Fortunately, I was able to break that cycle after seeing a neurologist and taking a 6-8 month course of preventative medication.
Since then, my migraines are mostly under control with a combination of regular massage, a decent chiropractor, and not doing anything really stupid to screw up my shoulder or my neck.
Unfortunately, I did something stupid to screw up my shoulder. Last Friday (July 11) I spent 5 hours standing in line for a new iPhone, holding my previous iPhone and my book at an akward angle while I was killing time. Then spent a couple hours a day for the next two days driving. Then yesterday I capped that damage off with twisting wierd while loading all the goodwill donations in my truck.
So by the time I went to bed last night, I had a “mild” migraine that had started as shoulder pain, worked its way up my neck into my jaw, and ended with stabbing pain in one eye. Boy, wasn’t that fun. I say “mild” because I didn’t end up curled up in the bathroom puking for 2 hours, and any migrain that doesn’t do that is mild. Usually.
Fortunately, I was able to get my shoulder stretched out, and lay very still in a very dark room, and push the migraine back to a headache by about 3am so I could fall asleep. I still ended up going to work late, and coming home early to take a nap. I’m just lucky that my boss understands how bad migraines can be, and doesn’t flip out or think I’m exaggerating like some people have been known to.
And now, I’m going to go find a hot watter bottle and some Advil for my shoulder so I don’t get another migraine.
