When simple upgrades go very, very simple
Since Smitty (see the Computers page) is used for DVD conversion, it really needed a larger, faster hard drive added. Fortunately, I had a spare 500GB drive in an eSATA enclosure, and an eSATA controller card pulled from another computer. So last night, I shut Smitty down to install the card and connect an eSATA bracket. Only when I opened the case, I discovered I didn’t need to install the card. Because I had forgotten that rather than filling the 2 1.5G/s SATA motherboard ports for my mirrored drive setup a few months ago, I had added a 4-port 3.0GB/s SATA controller card. The same card that I installed in Bunker last week, in fact. So all I had to do was connect the eSATA bracket to the existing card, then close the case back up. Very, very simple. And now I have a nice, speedy (faster than USB 2.0) external drive for my DVD conversions. Hooray for easier than expected upgrades!
