29 Hours and counting. . .

Well, I wish my server rebuild had only taken 9-12 hours. So far, it has taken me 29 hours to backup up the data, re-install Windows Home Server, and start moving the data back into the shares. Of course, until the new drive shows up on Thursday, there isn’t enough space to move all the data back into the shares. While it’s true there used to be enough space, because of the way some of the drives are hooked up, and the need to change the way those drives are hooked up, I have to wait until a new controller card shows up with the new hard drive Thursday. Then put the new hard drive in, which should get me enough space to clean off the drives that I have to move to the new controller card. Then take the drives off the old card, put them on the new card, and add them to the storage pool one at a time. At that point, I will finally be at the point I should have been Saturday afternoon, with all the drives in the storage pool and the drive racks in the server case for future expansion.

It will be at least Friday before I reach that point, due to the time it takes to copy data, and the need to wait for the storage pool to balance before shutting down the server to move the JBOD drives to the new card. So much for a quick, simple upgrade.
